WIP Wednesday - and I’m really surprised at how far this ball of yarn has gone. It might only take 2 1/2 balls.

knittingcountess:

For WIP Wednesday (before it ends), I am posting 2 current projects.

TOP:  After over 3 years, I finally “found” a project that is working for a special skein of "Silver Spoon" fingering yarn by Kitchen Sink Dyeworks! Yesterday morning, my daughter and I were saying how my cedar flute should have something better to protect it than a crazy sock and — it clicked! After beginning so many projects with this yarn and frogging them all, this “flute sock” actually seems to be coming together! I started with a circular cast-on, then “nebula” increases; now I am working the body of the “sock” in “horseshoe/arrowhead/flying birds” lace and am over half-way done!

BOTTOM:  This is my take on Melissa J. Goodale's “Salter Path,” which can be found in “Free Spirit Shawls,” an INTERWEAVE publication edited by Lisa Shroyer, editor of KnitScene.  I am using 3 yarns:  Shibui Sock in “Mulberry”; Noro Kureyon in a lime/orange/mulberry/violet/indigo colorway; and Madeline Tosh’s “Pashmina” in the “Terra” colorway. I plan to call it either “Autumn Sunset” or “Autumn Eclipse.”

If you’re battling a mental illness and didn’t want to wake up this morning but did anyways, you’re a motherfucking badass. Because living with a mental illness is hard and I’m damn proud of you for still being here and fighting. You’re metal as hell and tough as nails. So keep on fighting, you kickass Viking warrior. You can win this.

Peacock’s Tail Scarf

Pattern: Dandy Neckerchief

So this yarn came from my Art assignment trip where I drove somewhere while trying to be brave.  The yarn is kinda symbolically special to me now.  I’m not 100% pleased with how the color pooling went with this self-striping yarn (would have loved more greens and purples), but still rather happy overall.

When I saw the yarn in the shop I immediately thought “peacocks” and I wanted to do a pattern that kinda resembled that?  So I have these leaves that kinda look like the eyes of a peacock feather.  It didn’t quite translate right but I still rather like it.

words like “shit” and “fuck” and “hell” and “damn” are like kitchen knives. most of the time you’re going to be using them for some practical purpose. you stubbed your toe or got a flat tire or are shocked by something. all very practical, typical things that happen. you’re basically using the words to slice bread at this point. but sometimes you’re going to use them to try to hurt someone. phrases like “fuck you” or “go to hell” are times these words are used to be hurtful. they’re not the words’ sole purpose, but they can be used that way. to continue the metaphor, they’re like verbally stabbing someone with a kitchen knife

and then there are words like “f****t” and “ps***o.” slurs in general, really, which are the verbal equivalent of guns. they were designed specifically to hurt people. their primary reason for existing is to hurt people. using them against someone is the verbal equivalent of shooting at them, and saying them when, say, you slip on a patch of ice or get really angry is the verbal equivalent of shooting a gun straight up into the air. you have no idea who’s around you and who might be struck by that verbal bullet

and that’s the difference between swearing and slurs. swearing has a practical purpose while slurs are always dangerous
